Advancing Breast Imaging with Aurora Breast MRI

The Aurora Dedicated Breast MRI is designed from the beginning specifically for breast anatomy, unlike whole-body MRI systems that require after-market modifications.

Every functional component of the Aurora system, from the patient bed to the proprietary Computer Aided Detection (CAD) system to the integrated biopsy capability, is created solely for breast MRI.

Aurora Breast MRI offers superior image quality and accuracy of breast cancer detection compared with other breast imaging systems.

Early Detection Saves Lives
Yearly mammograms are recommended starting at age 40 and continuing for as long as a woman is in good health. Clinical breast exam (CBE) should be part of a periodic health exam, about every 3 years for women in their 20s, and 30s and every year for women 40 and over.

Women should know how their breasts normally feel and report any breast change promptly to their health care providers. Breast self-exam (BSE) is an option for women starting in their 20s.

Aurora Breast MRI screening is recommended for patients at high risk for breast cancer or those with a personal family history of breast cancer.

Digital Mammography for Breast Cancer Detection

Digital mammography with Computer Aided Detection (CAD) offers higher resolution and higher quality images compared to traditional mammograms taken on film. Digital image capture improves contrast, shortens exam time, and allows image exchange with other physicians without information loss.

Annual mammogram for breast cancer screening is recommended for women 40 years of age or older. Aurora Breast Center has the latest technology in digital mammography and experienced, caring staff to provide the care you deserve.

For women with higher life time risk of breast cancer, annual mammogram and annual breast MRI are started at younger age. For an assessment of your life time risk of breast cancer and an individualized breast cancer screening, please call

Bone Density Testing for Osteoporosis Detection

A bone density test is a measurement of the density of the minerals in your bones. It is the single most useful procedure in the diagnosis of osteopenia/osteoporosis and evaluation of fracture risk. The lower your bone density, the higher your risk of fracture.

Core Needle Breast Biopsy using Local Anesthesia

Sometimes MRI, mammograms, and ultrasounds show suspicious lesions that need further evaluation. Image guided core needle breast biopsy using local anesthesia increases the accuracy of diagnosis as well as reduces the scar associated with breast biopsy. It allows the patient to have this less invasive procedure at the Aurora Breast Center with local anesthesia instead of undergoing surgery. Core Needle Breast Biopsy is more cost effective and shortens the procedure and recovery time.

Diagnostic Ultrasound

  • Breast – The only center in San Antonio with the Tractus system which offers “GPS mapping” of both breasts. This is a supplemental tool for breast cancer screening for women with dense breasts.
    • Pelvic
